My parents lied to me…
…when they continually said to me just before my board exams that if I worked hard for the exams my life was set. This is one occasion I wish parents were correct
But then I did not really work hard for the board exams and scored only mediocre marks, maybe that’s why. Any of the 7 readers of this blog who studied meticulously for their boards and scored great marks care to leave a comment?
P.S. - I still love you Mom and Dad!

Someone whose opinion I value a lot once told me that academic marks are the most inaccurate indicator of the competence of a man. He was right and you are living proof.

You do realize that you are telling this to a person who was a gold medalist in college?
Geeez… thanks for making me feel so much better.

Let me take this a bit further than studies
My parents told me when I was in 10th:
“The next year if the most important in your life. You need to get good marks to go in Science if you want to. So study hard”
Then after that:
“11th and 12th are the most important years as you have to study well and get into a good college.”
The story of three college years:
“These are the years which will get you a good job. You are now big enough so you know what to do.”
After college before coming to Australia:
“Make sure you study well there. You know your responsibilities.”
After studies:
“Now is the time to work hard and make your career.”
Currently:
“Now is the time when you both are earning and dont have any kids so you can save.”
Am wondering what will be the next most “important thing” in my life now?
I guess every year is important and you have to work hard.
P.S. You know how hard I work in my current job right?

You know all this still doesn’t sound as torturous as my Dad’s most encouraging line (he thinks it is) - “hard work never killed anybody - so get down to it!”
